Tour A: Primary Children’s Medical
Center
Participants of the tour will explore the newly renovated main lobby and in-patient units with stunning light, color and art, high-fidelity pediatric patient simulation lab, critical care operations and construction side-by-side. Also, tour guides will illustrate the planning and preparation for winter season patient volumes, high RSV/influenza, construction, capacity patient volume and surgery in the only pediatric referral center for hundreds of miles. Transportation, Breakfast and a Welcome Pack will be provided.
Founded in 1922, Primary Children’s Medical Center is one of the 15 largest children’s hospitals in the U.S. With a service area covering 300,000 square miles and parts of five states, the hospital serves a population of more than one million children. The current facility, built in 1990, is located on the campus of the University of Utah and houses 252 beds. Construction now underway will expand the Level 3B NICU from 44 to 51 beds, Level One Trauma PICU from 32 to 44 beds, and add 10,000 square feet to the Emergency Department.
Tour B: Shriners Hospitals for Children –
Salt Lake City
Head up the hill for a tour of a little hospital that’s making a big difference in the lives of children. This tour will introduce the seat mapping technology and wheelchair simulator of the hospital. Also, see firsthand how a network of sensors, pressure plates and cameras work together to provide a computer generated analysis of a child’s gate, leading to better surgical outcomes. Take a break from the conference and learn more about the system of 22 Shriners Hospitals and its charitable mission to help children defy the odds.
Shriners Hospitals for Children in Salt Lake City is a 40-bed specialty orthopedic hospital providing expert care to children with problems of the bones, muscles and joints. Each year, more than 5,000 children from Intermountain West and northern Mexico receive treatment at no cost to their families, thanks to charitable contributions to the Shriners Hospitals for Children Endowment Fund. Services include inpatient surgery, outpatient clinics, prosthetics and orthotics, therapy and rehabilitation services, motion analysis, and custom wheelchair fittings.
