SCOPE Dialysis Collaborative

The Standardized Care to Improve Outcomes in Pediatric ESRD (SCOPE) Collaborative helps dialysis centers minimize dialysis-related infections in pediatric peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis patients. This program allows participating centers to meet Medicare's Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) requirements. For complete details on the project design, see the Collaborative Charter.

In SCOPE's first year, teams achieved significant outcome improvements for the peritoneal dialysis patient population. SCOPE is now expanding to prevent infections for hemodialysis patients.

Results as of March 2013:

  • Prevented estimated 66 infections
  • Prevented estimated 39 hospitalizations for a cost savings of $850,000
  • 27% reduction in peritonitis rate
