Nobody can tell the stories of children’s hospitals better than those who serve and are served at children's hospitals.

On July 23-25, children's hospitals patients and their families travel to Washington, to advocate on behalf of their hospitals as part of the eighth annual Children's Hospital Association Family Advocacy Day. Follow the journeys of these champions who will share their stories to illustrate why all children need children's hospitals.

Meet the All-Stars

Each week leading up to Family Advocacy Day, Children's Hospital Association will profile an All-Star of the week.

Isabelle "Simone" S., Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital

2012 FAD All-StarSimone just turned 3 years old and has already had quite a few challenges. She spent her first 13 months in the hospital, and has had several more visits this year due to various illnesses and for surgeries due to craniosynostosis, a skull deformity; tracheomalasia, a floppy airway; and cystic fibrosis, a chronic lung disease.

Program Highlights

There's a lot of serious business to be done while families are in Washington, however, there's also time for fun and networking.

The event will kick off on July 23 with local radio interviews, a sightseeing bus tour of popular Washington landmarks and a Smithsonian museum, lunch at the hotel followed by an interactive briefing for all ages to prepare participants for their legislative visits the following day. Later that evening, the hotel ballroom will be transformed into a patriotic dinner celebration, including live music, face painters, caricaturists, a strolling magician, ice cream carts, a toy shop, and other family-friendly entertainment.

On July 24 and 25, hospital staff and families will head to Capitol Hill to meet with legislators and their staff, and will enjoy lunch in one of the Senate office buildings.

Whether you are attending Family Advocacy Day or supporting those who will be in Washington in July, you can get involved by following our champions before, during and after the event on Facebook and Twitter.
